This explains the risk of cancer, leukemia, birth defects and reproductive disorders in proximity and at a distance from incinerators.
Incineration is also an absurd method on the environment because it increases the greenhouse effect by releasing water vapor and carbon dioxide. In addition, socio-economic terms, the cost of waste treatment is much higher compared to alternative methods .
In fact, as detailed in the report of GESDI (note 4), the only alternative methods, based on the collection and sorting, recycling of secondary materials (glass, paper, cardboard and metals), composting or methane fermentable organic waste, reuse of electrical and electronic compounds, lead to lower costs while creating jobs.
Incineration is therefore now become a total absurdity, the health, environmental and socio-economic and, finally, a real scandal.
