Press Release of August 17, 2010

COMMITTEE ASKS PUBLIC CONFRONTATION

In response to the equally serious - we believe - imaginative statements Basili, the Committee would specify the following:

  • that is not enough instrumentally circumvent the findings of the two biomonitoring carried out in Gualdo Cattaneo in 2005 and 2006 on commission from the Ministry of Environment, and showing high levels of pollution by heavy metals such as mercury, arsenic and vanadium, to name a few, to be able to believe that the only coal plant in Italy located at the bottom of a valley is not polluting;

  • that has never been reported phantom of tires burned in the vicinity of monitoring stations, where the actual operation are reports to say the least contradictory. So Basili adheres to the facts and avoid arguing his speeches using simple urban legends;

  • that is not true as alleged by Basili about to demonstrate the economic importance of the food product, since only in the Montefalco turnover associated with the marketing of Sagrantino amounts to tens of millions of euro annually. The reality is that the neighboring towns and without the embarrassing presence of the coal plant have growth rates well above those of Gualdo Cattaneo, area politicians and trade unionists have wanted from the Middle Ages in spite of its industrial real vocations, in the name of corporate interests that do not coincide with the territory.

Therefore, the Committee invites representatives of trade unions in public and political forces rooted in the territory to a public confrontation at which the entire population will be invited and attended by representatives of science (medical, chemical, environmental, biological etc.), during which it will be possible to clarify once and for all about the reality of things in the environment and sanitation in relation to the activity of the plant.

We await their reply.

Our area has already paid the heavy price: we can not accept that politicians and trade unions continue their crusade that ensures only property and that is uniquely designed to boycott anything that potentially could escape their control .
